Your Pit Bull and You (YPBY) was founded in March 2013 by two of us – Lori Nanan and Kelly Cottrell – to combine our efforts, talent and knowledge to fill a gap in the world of animal advocacy: in short, that Pit Bulls don’t require a “heavy hand.” As students of The Academy for Dog Trainers, we recognized the need for quality information regarding the training of the dogs we love so much.
YPBY was first a Facebook page, where we posted PSA posters featuring beautiful dogs and a poignant message that became our central theme: Animal Learning is not Breed Specific.
In August 2013, the website YourPitBullandYou.com was launched, ushering in a new era, one in which blog posts became our focus, while the Facebook page grew into a community that not only embraced Pit Bulls, but one that recognized that this information applies to all types of dogs. YPBY continues to carry the same messages and mission, with the added catchphrase We do not discriminate.
Fast forward to 2016 and Your Pit Bull and You is a full-fledged 501(c)3 non-profit organization true to its roots, while continuing to grow by offering support to those who are actively engaged in the fight against Breed Specific Legislation throughout North America.
TO SUPPORT OUR MISSION:
Raise funds to help support rescues and shelters which share our goals of positive promotion of pit bulls and utilizing Reward-Based Training.
Provide educational resources through “PSA” posters, blog posts, videos and written materials which can be utilized as tools by individuals and organizations who advocate for pit bull type dogs and employ Reward-Based training methods.
